A grain has three parts – bran, germ, endosperm.
Refined grains do not have bran or germ which gives them a finer texture, but removes the best part of their nutrition and fiber.
Also, remember that multi-grain foods might not use whole grains. It’s important to always look for the words “whole wheat” or “whole oats” so that all of the possible nutrition will be available!
